[Coin World] According to reports, on August 13 local time, U.S. President Trump stated during a speech at the Kennedy Center that he would seek long-term federal control over the Washington D.C. police force. According to Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act, unless Congress extends it, Trump’s control over the city’s law enforcement agency can only last for 30 days. According to ABC, when asked if he would work with Congress to extend the emergency authorization that allows temporary control of local law enforcement, Trump stated that Congress needs to pass a bill to address crime, which should include extending the federal police control over Washington D.C. for an additional 30 days.
