From Airdrop Frenzy to Hype Economy: Challenges and Future of Encryption Content Creation

From Airdrop Strategies to Hype Economy: The Struggles and Reflections of Encryption Content Creators

In April 2023, a group of friends and I started to venture into the social media space of cryptocurrency. At that time, we focused on writing Airdrop strategies, with each tweet requiring 1-2 hours of careful preparation, but often gaining 100,000 views in just 12 hours. Our daily life revolved around this cycle: wake up, write, post, eat, rest, day after day.

Looking back, that period was truly a golden age. Our small content creation team may have accounted for about 10% of the entire encryption social media attention. Personally, I would receive 1-2 collaboration invitations from project parties every month, but at that time we valued influence over monetary returns.

One day, I was surprised to find that my account with only 10,000 followers had actually received 400,000 views. The joy brought by this sense of achievement far surpassed the numbers in my wallet (even though it was only a four-digit figure at the time, it was already a considerable income for me).

This situation continued until September 2023, when the circumstances began to change with the algorithm's shift. Meanwhile, I temporarily left this circle and didn't return until December. The reason for my departure was that some interesting things in real life came up that needed my attention, which meant I could only post a maximum of three tweets per month.

Around August 2023, I realized that the Airdrop field was not a long-term solution and was not suitable as my development direction. I decided to transition into a decentralized finance (DeFi) novice. Nowadays, those once-active Airdrop content creators, such as ardizor, CC2, etc., seem to have disappeared from the information flow.

December 2023 marks a new chapter in my encryption social media career. I have adopted a new writing style, invested more effort, improved the visuals, and expanded my network, but surprisingly, the views have actually declined.

You may ask, has the view count really decreased? Indeed it has. Despite putting in much more effort than before, the view count of my tweets is only around 20,000. Occasionally it can reach 100,000, but overall the situation is still not as good as it used to be.

What is the current situation? With the rise of the InfoFi concept, a large amount of low-quality content is flooding the platform. The overall quality of content has sharply declined, and 99% of people post for the token rewards allocated to "hype men" for a particular project. The more rewards a project offers, the worse the situation becomes.

I feel that the quality of my content has reached its historical highest level, and the effort I put in is constantly increasing, but the number of views and new followers has dropped to a historical low. My information feed is filled with worthless ranking content.

In the face of this situation, how should we respond? Perhaps during a period of market stagnation, we can try to discuss various protocols on relevant platforms, strive to provide valuable content, continuously improve quality, and maintain uniqueness.

For all content creators, this path is becoming increasingly difficult, and only the most resilient individuals can survive and thrive in this environment. Whether on encryption social media or in real life, staying focused and patient is crucial. Keep going, and there will eventually be a day of reward.

theoretically speaking, this engagement-to-follower ratio suggests a viral coefficient of ~40x... reminds me of recursive growth patterns in L3 adoption metrics tbh
